Mr. Stanley Jayaweera, past teacher of Dharmaraja passed away at his residence in Rajagiriya on 4th February. An Old Boy of St. Thomas’ and later of Ananda, he passed out from University of Ceylon Peradeniya with a 1st Class pass in philosophy during the time of Sir Ivor Jennings, the first Vice chancellor of Peradeniya. He taught Government and Civics in the Senior classes at Dharmaraja in the years 1952 and 1953. He was a friend of the contemporary staff member, the legendary B.A. Pathiratne who persuaded to join the Foreign Service. In the Foreign Service he became an expert in Indo-Ceylon Immigration matters where he helped Mrs. Bandaranaike in obtaining some important concessions form India to send back a half of the Plantation Tamils. He ended his career in the Foreign Service as the SL Ambassador to Bonn during the time of President Jayawardane.
An ardent admirer of Sir D.B. Jaytillake, the first Principal of Dharmaraja, Mr. Jayaweera once delivered the Founders’ Day Oration on Sir. D.B.
May he attain Nibbana. .
